With the aid of conductive elastomers, flexible and extensible sensors are realized in which the deformation is detected by a change in the electrical resistance. The resistance measurement can be easily carried out with a microprocessor.
Depending on the sensor design, the resistive elastomer sensors react to different load forms. With strain sensors, the strain of an elastic body or the variable distance between two moving bodies can be measured continuously. Pressure sensors measure the force or pressure acting on a surface.
