The more electronic (entertainment) systems penetrate people's everyday lives, the more customized human-machine interfaces are developed. From simple touch screens to the recognition of gestures and movements to the measurement of nerve signals, the respective technologies are adapted to the area of application.


At CeSMA, mainly pressure and motion-sensitive input methods are developed, with a particular focus on three-dimensional surfaces and stretchable substrates. Elastic input technologies, for example based on dielectric elastomer sensors or very thin and large-area sensor fields using piezoelectric polymers, are the most important input systems. However, capacitive systems, thermal sensors and operating elements that can be integrated into textiles are also part of the technology portfolio.

In order to enable bidirectional communication between human and machine, actuator systems that enable haptic feedback are being developed in addition to contributions to display technologies.
